Studies on isolation rate
The isolation rate gives an estimate of the proportion of cats infected at the time of sampling. It should be realised, however, that sampling is not always a successful method of detecting infected cats, particularly carrier cats– the isolation rate, therefore, should be seen to be an underestimation of the number of cats infected at a particular time.
Studies concentrating on isolation of bacteria also show the bacterium to be widespread within the population. There have been many studies on B. bronchiseptica isolation rates supporting this statement including studies from Italy, Belgium , the UK, New Zealand and the USstudies">USA.
