Bordetella bronchiseptica colonies on blood agar plate

Bordetella bronchiseptica colonies on a blood agar plate

The colonies formed are in the region of 1mm in diameter and develop a rough surface that is pitted like beaten metal. On blood agar, B. bronchiseptica forms larger colonies than on BG agar, and the colonies are greyish-white, somewhat flat and lack the metallic appearance that they have on BG agar. B. bronchiseptica may produce hazy zones of haemolysis on BG agar.
